In the short space of weeks, our tiny emerging mulberries ripened into juicy mulberries which we have been using to make fresh homemade mulberry muffins.
Last season, we made the mistake of not putting up bird netting, which resulted in the local parrots stripping the tree bare of fruit in a matter of hours………so we certainly didn’t make the same mistake again this year!
Mulberries are DELICIOUS! The flavour is sweet and slightly tart, similar to a blackberry combined with a grape.
Mulberry trees can grow HUGE…with invasive root systems, so we grow a dwarf variety in a half wine barrel. The tree is easily maintained at 2mtr tall which means the fruit is super easy to harvest.
